This is my 2nd Cafe microwave drawer. I bought it when it was new to the market and was thrilled to have this appliance in white, especially matte white. Less than 3 years later in small household with light use, there were sparks flying inside the microwave. Researching repairs I learned it's a common inevitable failure among most units. The interior paint sheds in the back left corner resulting in exposed metal and potential fire hazard. Because of my kitchen design, I had few choices for replacement. I purchased a second identical one with a long warranty to replace when this one fails also. GE needs to recall and fix the design flaw.

We've only had this microwave installed a little over a year and the open and close functions no longer work. We have to manually pull it open and closed and it does not push and pull easily.

We purchased 6 new appliances from GE Cafe and 2 of them, the refrigerator and microwave, have never actually worked. It's taking weeks just to get technicians to come and look at them, and then another 3 weeks to get the part. They look nice but are otherwise useless.

We loved this microwave and how easy it was for our kids to use but now it is a severe safety hazard! After less than 3 years it is sparking and has the burn marks in the back corners. Reading other reviews it sounds like this is not repairable which is awful for how much it costs. We got 4 cafe appliances when we remodeled our kitchen so that™™s a lot of money spent and now we™™re worried about the life span of the rest.

Cafe Microwave and Fridge are bad and their customer service is worse. Have had the fridge leak and destroy new hardwood floors and cabinets in kitchen. Microwave circuit board burned out and had to be replaced, now the microwave interior paint is chipped and caused sparking. This was a known manufacturing defect but they keep selling these defective items

From the minute we installed this drawer microwave, we have had nothing but issues. First, the door wouldn't open consistently, so for the first six months we had at least 3 technician visits. The door still needed a little bump to open after the third visit, but would at least open consistently. Less than three years of having it, and the control assembly failed. The buttons stopped functioning completely. Looking on the Internet, this is apparently a common failure mode. The fix? A brand new control assembly for over $200. Thankfully I was able to install that myself, and now the microwave works, but I'll likely be back on the website for another failure soon enough, likely for another $200 part. If you have the space, get countertop microwave with a normal door, or build in a microwave with a door.

Microwave Oven lasted 1.5 years before it started sparking internally when microwaving food. Warranty is 1 year. Repair technicians are quoting almost the cost of the microwave to fix it. Do not recommend this brand unless you want to be spending $1,000 every year on a microwave.

Horrible experience with this drawer microwave. We had to replace the motherboard after two years and now it is SPARKING. The wheel on the drawer is destroying itself. Poor design and a major fire hazard. Unreal to pay this money for a ™quality, high end™ microwave and GE will not do ANYTHING. I 100% regret my purchase.

I really wish I would have pushed back more in this entire product line. It™™s been barely over 1 year, we paid for all the Bodewell extended warranties, and guess what? Microwave is sparking! A $2,000 microwave that does work. The warranty? Only 1 year parts and labor! This is an absolute absurdity. And yet people keep buying because it simply matches their other appliances.

Within the past two years I have had issues with this microwave. Within weeks of owning it, it started sparking. GE replaced it and now, just only 1.5 years later my replacement is doing the SAME thing! This is completely unacceptable, not to mention dangerous! Do NOT purchase!!!

I have to say I am throughly disappointed with myself for choosing the cafe collection after remodeling my kitchen. We™™ve had the appliances for a little over a year and my microwave is already having this sparking issue that others talk about and my warranty is no longer valid. My refrigerator had a drawer that busted off within a few months and I replaced that (another common complaint amongst those who purchased the refrigerator.) My dishwasher broke within 6 months. This story almost sounds made up because it™™s absolutely ridiculous. We are people who take good care of our appliances so the fact that we™™ve now had issues with 3 out of the 4 appliances we™™ve purchased is ridiculous. It™™s very upsetting to save up to purchase brand new appliances just to have them break within a two year window. We had our Maytag kitchen appliances for TEN YEARS without an issue. Cafe, do right by your customers. I™™d hope you reach out an offer me a microwave replacement at no cost. At this point I™™m willing to give up the look of these appliances and spend the money to buy a completely new set elsewhere. This is so disheartening.

We're having the same issue as many others. We moved into a house where this new unit had been installed, and within a month arcing has started in the same spots (the back corners) -- I assume from the wheels rubbing paint off, and the keypad has been shorting out which requires resetting the breaker. We've stopped using it due to fire risk.

We've had this microwave for about three years. The control board shorted within the first couple months of install. No problem, Cafe sent a repair team to replace the control board under warranty. About a year later, it was no longer under warranty, and it happened again. I figured we were just unlucky. I called Bodewell, I was going to have to pay for the appointment, the part and the labor. After seeing the repairman fix it the first time, I bought the part ($300) and replaced it myself. Worked for about nine months and the control board just shorted again! Steer clear!

After 2 years the keypad suddenly stopped working. After following all troubleshooting steps in the manual, I was forced to call a technician who let me know I needed an entire new control panel. Of course, this happened just out of warranty, almost as if by design.
I really enjoyed this microwave for the first 2 years of its life. It™™s powerful, has great features, and looks great with my full set of cafe appliances. Unfortunately now I have nothing more than a $1700 brick that will require at least another $500 to get working again.
Meanwhile, the $50 microwave in my basement kitchenette is still going strong nearly 5 years later and serving as my backup while the $1700 microwave sits there unplugged.
I have 9 GE appliances in my home, 3 of which required repair within the first 2 years. I grew up with GE appliances and my childhood home still has a functioning GE oven from the late ™60s. They are not the same company they used to be.

Product looks great. That's about it. Less than a year in, the drawer started malfunctioning, getting jammed when it was supposed to open. We found a hack and used it for another year, until we couldn't take it anymore. I called a technician who told us that ordering new parts to fix it would cost so much that we might as well get a new one. We chose to keep dealing with the annoying drawer, but now we have the message that the keypad shorted and the microwave doesn't work at all. This microwave was very expensive, and it has not been worth the money, by any means. It's a joke how poorly made it is and how briefly it worked correctly.

The keypads are a bad design because when it steams up, it always shows up the keypad. Somehow they can™™t really seal the I mean, overall I like the microwavekeypad so when it steams up, you have to replace the key keypad and it was like $300 to replace.

Microwave has worked great since we bought in 2023, until Christmas day when we noticed a spark. We then noticed in the back right of the drawer just like most folks reviewing the bottom wheel stopped spinning and there was a burnt mark in the back right the picture is identical to all of these. . Then I had a GE worker come to service the microwave, only for him to tell me my warranty is up and I need a new microwave. He was here for less than 20 minutes and they charge $133. He just told me I should have gotten the extended warranty. I have never put an extended warranty on a microwave. As they are work horses We clean it and keep it working. This was very expensive and I am locked into a microwave drawer because of our kitchen remodel. So disappointed in GE. Now I am of course regetting Something to do with a fault in a back roller / wheel of the door. He said he wouldn™™t recommend a drawer microwave, they have more issues. Pretty bad experience!

This microwave is defective by design. There are metal components in both back corners that will burn, spark and arc after about a year of use, rendering this microwave useless and creating a pretty serious fire hazard. Our first microwave sparked after less than twelve months of normal use. GE replaced it but did not fix the fault in the machine because the same issue happened with the second one in less than a year. GE refused to replace the second one because it was "out of warranty," but frankly, they should be ashamed to still be selling this dangerous, defective product.
This microwave is expensive and dangerous. You will have to replace it in less than a year. Look elsewhere.

I™™ve had it replaced once under warranty, and it happened again! Now they want.meto pay for a new unit! For a $1700 microwave, this should gold plate my food. I™™ve had $100 microwaves last longer. AVOID.

We have this installed in our island and it is very difficult to see the keypad. Considering the price of this item and the fact that it is a drawer microwave,,you would think it would have a back lit keypad. Otherwise, it™™s a good microwave and we like the features such as the melt feature and the sensor features.

I loved this drawer microwave until (like others) it started arcing in the left rear corner after warranty expired . I had service call and it is not repairable so my $1600 appliance is junk just shy of 2 years
This is clearly a known issue and GE needs to find a solution As a well known and trusted brand™¦GE needs to offer a recall or some credit toward a replacement and fix this dangerous issue

Same as a lot of costumers. After a year and a half of gently use, sparks from left side of the microwave and burn marks.
Of course it is out of warranty. Very disappointed to pay over $1, 800 for this to happen. I am not sure why GE don't look at the reviews and try to resolve the issue.

Microwave literally sparked and caught fire but GE won™™t replace it because it™™s 14 months old. Absolutely ridiculous.
They sent a tech out that deemed it repairable and said it was a manufacturers defect but the tech never submitted his report so now we are waiting on a second tech to report the same thing. They never call back when they say they will. The worst service I have ever had with an appliance company. I will buy any brand over GE in the future.

As many others have said, there is a defective part on the roller wheel/ casting/coating and has caused a black burn mark in the back of the microwave. We are not able to use it because of how bad the arcing is. We use the microwave correctly, never putting metal or foil in it, ever, haven't used "recycled paper towels with small metal pieces" or plates with a metallic trim or glaze. This is a defective part as almost 200 other people have stated. The part doesn't look like we can buy and replace it separately. I generally like GE and Cafe appliances but this microwave, the defect, the safety concerns and the lack of response or coverage for said Cafe design or manufacturing will have me switch brands. The solution is not a new microwave when it seems like something that could have been made better or designed better for higher end appliances from GE.

Bought this 2 years ago. Looks great. Works well. Unfortunately it developed the same problem other reviews described where the wheels rub paint off of the inside and expose metal that creates sparks and is a fire hazard. I followed the instructions GE gave to those reviews and had a specialist from Bodewell service it. He looked at it for about 45 seconds, spent 15 minutes on the phone and told me it was "unrepairable" charged me $120 and left. He said there were no reports that this was a common problem. It's obvious to anyone looking at these reviews that this is a common problem.
With GE continuing to deny this common problem it makes one wonder if only a class action lawsuit will capture their attention.

The microwave is the only appliance out of four CafÃ' appliances we haven't had to have serviced yet. We spent over $12,000 on a ref., dishwasher, range and microwave and have already, after just a few months had to have the range, ref. and dishwasher serviced. Dish washer was serviced three times already and still not fixed.

I bought 4 new Cafe products, induction range, refrigerator, dishwasher and this microwave for a total remodel in 2024. Everything looked and worked great until the microwave started sparking in the back right section. A registered technician came out and stated the arcing appeared to be coming from the mag into the inside of the m/w. He recommended replacement. Since then I've had nothing but a run around from GE Appliances Consumer Relations/Coutni. Apparently, because I had put down a deposit of 50% of the order amount in December 2023, I was told the product was out of warranty - despite the fact that i didn't take possession until August 2024. I'm still trying to get this replaced, but despite the many documented cases in GE's website, all I'm getting is a load of manure.

The control screen on the microwave is very hard to read. Pale lettering on black. It looks like it should light up, but it doesn't. The only thing that lights up is the little screen that tells you the time set to microwave. You really need to have all the kitchen light on full blast in the kitchen to see the choices at all. This was sold to me as an island microwave. Absolutely not! The control panel does not flip open so you can see it from the top. I have had island microwaves before. This is the worst. You have to bend over or crouch to see the controls. Very disappointing! Expensive, so I'm not replacing it. But I will!
